Celebration of the World Day of RCRC Movement 8th of May 2026
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) celebrates World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on 8th of May each year, together with the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Sudan, namely the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). This occasion is also celebrated by all Red Cross and Red Crescent societies worldwide in honor of the founder of the Movement, Henry Dunant of Switzerland, and to highlight the unique role played by the Movement through its volunteers and staff, as well as in recognition of the diverse humanitarian services they provide to local communities everywhere.
This year’s celebration comes under the slogan “United in Humanity.”
Humanity is the foundation of all humanitarian work. The principle of humanity has always been the driving force behind humanitarian action, striving to prevent and alleviate suffering wherever it is found. It is the fundamental principle upon which all humanitarian work is based, and it makes the realization of the other principles possible. Without humanity, the principles of impartiality, neutrality, and independence would have no meaning.
On this occasion, and on 8th of May, the SRCS will launch its activities to celebrate this day under the slogan “United in Humanity,” reaffirming its belief in the Movement’s role in promoting humanitarian values and serving the community.
The main celebration this year will take place in Gedaref State and will honor the volunteers of the Society who lost their lives while carrying out their humanitarian duties, in recognition of their great sacrifices and in appreciation of their noble humanitarian role in serving the community.
This day is an opportunity to highlight the diverse humanitarian work carried out by the International Movement worldwide, and to shed light on the efforts of the SRCS, through its volunteers and staff, in supporting the most vulnerable groups and communities affected by disasters and crises.
This year’s slogan, “United in Humanity,” highlights the importance of solidarity and cooperation among all components of the International Movement, as well as with the communities it serves.
Mr. Ahmed Altayeb Suliman, Secretary General of the SRCS said: “On this World Day of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, we celebrate the humanity that brings us together and unites us all in humanitarian work. It drives us to alleviate suffering and support those most in need of assistance, without discrimination or partiality”
He added: “This year’s slogan, ‘United in Humanity,’ reflects our deep commitment to humanitarian values and reminds us that every effort, no matter how small, has a significant impact on people’s lives. We also affirm that all our efforts, through our volunteers and staff, are aimed at alleviating suffering and supporting those in need without discrimination”
