The Sudanese Red Crescent Society in North Kordofan State

The Sudanese Red Crescent Society in North Kordofan State, based in El Obeid, launched a programme to provide meals to war-affected people from local communities in Bara and El Obeid through community kitchens (takaya) with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The programme is part of the Society's plan to alleviate the effects of war on citizens and strengthen the humanitarian response in the state.

The project aims to provide daily meals to more than 1, 500 families affected by the war through five community kitchens, three in the city of Bara and two in the city of El Obeid, for a period of more than three consecutive weeks, under the supervision of a specialised emergency team in the city of Bara, which is responsible for monitoring the progress of work and implementing accompanying activities such as health awareness, environmental sanitation, management of corpses and provision of emergency ambulance services .

The launch ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of the Barah Local Authority, Mr. Al-Tayeb Muhammad Idris Muhammad, and the Executive Director of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in the state, Mr. Huzaifa Fadl Al-Sayyid Abdulrahman, who emphasised that the programme embodies the Society's commitment to continuing its humanitarian efforts in supporting those affected by the war and providing urgent food support to the most needy groups.

Mr. Huzaifa Fadl Al-Sayed expressed his appreciation to the Barah Local Authority for its cooperation and facilitation of the Society's teams' tasks, noting that joint work between the two parties strengthens the local community's ability to withstand and overcome the effects of war.

For his part, Mr. Al-Tayeb Mohamed Idris praised the great efforts made by the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in the state, appreciating its role in providing necessary services and alleviating the suffering of citizens, and affirming the local authority's readiness to provide all the necessary facilities for the success of the Society's humanitarian programmes in the service of people and society.
