Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers are not targets:
The Sudanese Red Crescent is shocked and deeply saddened by the killing of fve
volunteers who were on duty in the city of Bara, North Kordofan27.102025. Other three
volunteers are still missing.
The Sudanese Red Crescent team, clearly marked with SRCS vest, was on official mission
as part of a food distribution team in the city of Bara. They were wearing Red Crescent vest,
which are supposed to provide them with full protection, and carried identifcation cards
issued by the North Kordofan branch of SRCS (volunteer cards).
Furthermore, the media has reported on a video showing the beating of North Kordofan
volunteer team, wearing the SRCS vest, in the city of Bara, in a scene that is an affront to
humanity.
The SRCS sends its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and to their friends
and colleagues.
Under International Humanitarian Law, humanitarian workers must be respected and
protected in every situation.
Any attack on healthcare workers, ambulances, and medical facilities is unacceptable.
We strongly reiterate our call for unwavering respect for the Red Cross and Red Crescent
emblems and the crucial humanitarian services they represent.
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is monitoring the situation in El Fasher in North Darfur
and Bara in North Kordofan with great concern. The Secretary General of the Society, Mrs.
Aida Al-Sayed Abdullah, expressed her shock at this behavior, which has claimed the lives
of several SRCS volunteers. At the same time, she expressed her deep concern over the
loss of contact with the Red Crescent team in El Fasher, who were working inside the
women's and maternity hospital, appealing to everyone to allow Sudanese Red Crescent
volunteers and staff to carry out their humanitarian work and to ensure their safety.
The Sudanese Red Crescent lost 28 colleagues (Volunteers & staff) since the beginning of
